Ugliens Town’s AMA Transcript

On August 26th, we had an AMA with Retro Boy from Fun Labs’ to talk about their collection, Ugliens Town.

As you may know, on August 31st, the Ugliens Town collection by Fun Labs was listed on Liquid Collectibles, so it was an excellent opportunity to have Retro Boy answer questions and bonding with our community on Telegram.

So, without further delay, here you have a summary of how it went.

Knowing Retro Boy, Ugliens Town, and FunLabs

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): We actually started as just a PFP collection, which is called Retro Boyz Association; maybe some of you already know it; we have been here already for a year.

But one day, the market became bearish, and we decided to have some fun and treat holders, so I launched the Fun Labs pass, which was free to claim for 48 hours for Retro Boyz holders. After that, with the pass, you were able to mint Ugliens for free.

It was minted out in 15 minutes and got a high volume on secondary sales. As far as I know, this was the first ever BNB free-mint.

Efe (💎,🍌) @ EthCC: Yuppp, we already know Retro Boyz with their cool art. Also, the Fun Labs pass was a perfect idea for the beloved community. My question about that will come a little later, haha 😛 😜 !

Current development status of Ugliens and the main goals in 2022

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): All the stuff promised before mint is already delivered in the first days; this is the DAO, where only holders choose the next steps. And, as always in Fun Labs, we were over-delivered, haha. We’ve made Ugliens Arena with tournaments, where you can fight with other Ugliens, and the winner takes the loser’s NFTs. It happens with on-chain random using ChainLink.

As well as having some “cultish” fun, we started a “sacrifice event” where holders were asked to burn their Ugliens with no explanation. And it went well, 77 Ugliens were burned, which is like 7% of the supply, and the ones who burned were unexpectedly awarded some NFTs; good times!

Yeah, and Ugliens have been minted with FunLabs pass NFTs; how can we get one?

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): Fun Labs pass is exclusively available only on The Bull Society marketplace.

It now has like 2–3 upcoming collections with wl spots and discounts 👀

As FunLabs, are you planning some more free mint projects in the future?

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): At the moment, we are focusing on PILLS development (Phase 2 for Retro Boyz); it was delayed because of market conditions.

But, yes, there is the plan, more likely Ethereum, tho, not the BNB chain.

Efe (💎,🍌) @ EthCC: Hmmm sounds interesting. I’ll not lose track of that development status for sure.

What is Ugliens Arena?

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): It was based on our Retro Boyz “club,” where you bet your NFT, but I made some updates and recreated it as the Arena for Ugliens.

So basically, you’re “betting” your NFT to fight with another holder. The winner takes all NFTs from what was in the pool. The winner is selected by on-chain random.

Speaking of Degens, personally, I’m a big fan of the DAO system.

How much influence does the DAO organization have on your future plans? Do you submit all decisions to be taken to the DAO vote?

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): Ugliens were launched as a 100% community-driven project, so absolutely every decision should go through a DAO vote; anyone with 10+ Ugliens in their wallet can propose whatever he wants.

Other exciting things

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): Yeah, we have some ongoing projects, I don’t know if I can mention it here, but we have a project called The Willy NFT, with 90% of Vault in this project, we are buying $LICO and staking it to get free NFTs from the pool, so worth a check!

Community’s questions

Okan: Does Ugliens have a utility for holders other than fights?

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): So, since this is a 100% free mint project, there weren’t even funds to develop anything. This is all done with enthusiasm, mostly, haha.

Now, it has fights, and it has the DAO vote system and all the royalties funds accumulating in the community wallet, the team getting nothing till the community says so.

If there will be a proposal to develop some more utilities using reflection funds — so be it if the vote will wins.

Victor: Who is the artist behind those beautiful Ugliens? 😁

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): Haha, it is supposed to be Ugly! I am the artist of this; it was pretty fun to draw them and more fun to see them generated.

I’m not gonna lie when I say I may love them more than any NFTs on BNB from the art side; it’s just different and nice because of this.

WhenMe || BTN: Most NFT projects are driven up by hype, so when the hype dies, the project dies. What’s the key to sustaining your project??

Retro Boy (🔶, 👦): We actually now see a bit lower engagement with the project. So we are bringing it a second breath, listing it on such a nice platform as Liquid Collectibles.

We have merch designs ready, done by @Goltnor, and we are about to launch it asap as well. Holders will get a merch discount up to the amount they are holding; it’s already implemented on our website.
